A USB camera with built-in live preview combines USB video output with a local display for camera-side framing. Goobuy's 2MP prototype uses a 2.4-inch screen and 6mm lens to help operators confirm camera angle and target framing for inspection, workbench documentation, maintenance evidence and other controlled capture applications.

Goobuy is developing a new 2MP USB camera with a built-in 2.4-inch live preview screen, designed for applications where operators need to confirm camera angle and image framing directly at the capture position.
The current engineering prototype combines a 2MP camera, 6mm lens, USB connectivity and integrated rear display in one compact camera unit. While the USB connection delivers the camera image to an external host, the built-in screen provides a local live view to help the operator see what the camera sees before or during image capture.
The concept is being evaluated for inspection, workbench documentation, maintenance evidence recording and other controlled capture applications where accurate camera positioning matters.
A conventional USB camera normally relies on the connected computer or terminal to display its image.
That works well when the camera and host monitor are close together. However, some industrial and commercial applications place the camera above a workbench, on an inspection fixture, inside or around equipment, or simply away from the operator's host display.
In these situations, positioning a conventional USB camera can involve repeatedly adjusting the camera and then looking back at the PC to check the image.
Goobuy's new prototype explores a different workflow:
Position the camera → Check the local live view → Adjust the framing → Capture through the USB host.
The 2.4-inch screen is not intended to replace the host computer or its software. Instead, it provides a camera-side framing reference for faster positioning and visual confirmation.
Rather than using an ultra-wide-angle lens to capture as much of the surrounding area as possible, the current prototype uses a 6mm lens.
This configuration is being evaluated for more controlled and targeted imaging, where the operator wants to make sure a specific component, product, work area or inspection target is correctly positioned within the camera view.
The combination of a 6mm lens and local live preview may be particularly useful when framing accuracy is more important than maximum scene coverage.
Final field of view and other optical specifications will be confirmed after the current engineering evaluation is completed.
Goobuy is currently evaluating the concept for several specialized USB camera workflows.
Electronics and small-parts inspection — Operators can confirm the position of a PCB, connector, component, label or assembly area directly at the inspection station before capturing the image on a connected computer.
Maintenance and service evidence capture — Technicians can visually confirm that the required component or service area is correctly framed before recording equipment condition, repair work or before-and-after evidence.
Overhead workbench documentation — A camera mounted above a repair, assembly or inspection bench can provide a local framing reference while the USB host handles image capture, recording or documentation.
Packing, RMA and condition recording — Operators can check that the relevant product, component, serial-number area or packaging zone is visible before creating inspection or condition records.
Temporary inspection and camera alignment — For cameras that are repositioned between different inspection points or equipment locations, a built-in preview can simplify repeated camera alignment without requiring the operator to continuously look at a separate host monitor.

The development concept is based on keeping the familiar USB camera workflow while adding local visual feedback.
The built-in 2.4-inch display is intended primarily for:
The connected USB host can continue to handle:
This allows the local screen to solve a specific usability problem without turning the camera into a standalone recording system.

The camera shown here is currently an engineering prototype under evaluation at Goobuy. It is not yet offered as a standard RTS product.
The present prototype uses:
| Item | Current Prototype |
|---|---|
| Camera Resolution | 2MP |
| Interface | USB |
| Built-In Display | 2.4-inch live preview screen |
| Lens | 6mm |
| Main Function | Camera-side live framing and capture confirmation |
| Status | Engineering prototype / under evaluation |
Goobuy is continuing to evaluate and optimize the mechanical structure, enclosure, mounting method, display usability, camera positioning and final optical configuration before freezing the production specifications.
Production readiness is currently targeted for late October 2026, subject to final engineering validation.
Final specifications may therefore differ from the prototype described in this development update.
This development project is intended for applications where the camera view needs to be confirmed directly at the camera position rather than only from the connected host display.
Goobuy welcomes feedback from industrial users, equipment builders and system integrators working with similar capture or inspection workflows.
